Day 11: I exist, Why? (Bop)

I was born with the blood of a serpent’s poison

Hazmat suits were administer to keep their distance

Given two blood transfusion in a capsule home

My mom’s birthday present was in Intensive Care alone.

First five days of living & this is what I get

If God loves his children, then consider him a hypocrite

I wasn’t supposed to be here.

Survived as a toddler with a few tumbles

Left by my father so here comes the struggle

Society little problem graduates every year

See my degrees, a professional is here.

The Military had my life on stilts

And civilian life is still difficult

I wasn’t suppose to be here

So I have 2 children from 2 different women

My life at 40 is in a weird transition

I attempt new things so I will never be bored

I accept the risk so I’ll never go poor

So to win at life, let’s be clear

I do everything now to tell the world why:

I am suppose to be here.

Day 10 – Two children

Two children
Two mothers
Two families
One link

They live two different lives in one time
Only seeing the other in one moment
They don’t understand
why they need to know each other.

Two ages
Two cities
Two houses
One choice

Her ponytails and brash attitude.
A born leader
Born a single child.
Older than her young cousins
She follows a beat to a different drum

His curly hair is as wild as his spirit.
With Emerald eyes that reveal he is special.
New to this world, his family will be his foundation rock as he builds his life.

Two decisions
Two fates
Too young
One father

They are young and strong.
With an ambition
that’ll never steer them wrong.
Now, our family picture
Reminds me that we are one.

Day 9: A Zine Fiend (Magic 9)

My obsession is known for my quest on zines

Libraries achieve these authors’ works for fans:

Poetry, letters, comics, and clips from magazines.

Zinesters put these items together and distribute publicly.

My search continues for all ideas to be seen.

Libraries to stores to festivals and distros

Self-publishing is here and I’m uncovering a scene.

Clearly, given the world something that has a demand.

If you want to make your own world, then create some zines.

This poetic form is known as the “Magic 9”: a 9 line poem with a rhyme scheme that is “ABACADABA.” Think abracadabra without “2 R’s”

Day 6: 13 views of Sacramento (in Senryu)

napo2017button2

Poet:
Pain in the city
Minds are numb by so much pain
But, we want some more

Governor:
In charge of the state
But this city is a mess
The mayor will fix it

Homeless:
do you have some change?
They act like they don’t see me
Still they go around

State Worker:
have to get to work
Only here for ten hours
Hmm, happy hour

Student:
love WiFi WiFi.
We can be out & online
This town has it all

Out of towner:
why was I sent here?
Meetings, hotel, food, drinks, bored
Nothing to do here

Uber Driver:
so where are they at
These one way streets confuse me
Why you over there?

Bus Driver:
these loud passengers
Woah, these cars better watch out
Through the city again

Mayor:

Just got elected
The problems in this city
What do we do first

Owner:
Move on, homeless guy
Raise prices to deal with fees
What event will pay

Bicyclist:
hope these cars sees me
Never deal with this traffic
Making good timing

Musician:
This is my New York
Hear the city’s sweet rhythm
Just play my music

Artist:
Open the window
The pictures are all right there
What action is art?

The views of Sacramento are so obscure. So I put the views in Senryu(haiku with emotions). The city life is fast pace but I understand the point of the rush.

Day 4 – Banana meets Strawberry (Enigma)

napo2017button2

One day, a banana met a strawberry in a fruit bowl. They talked about their interests and goals. They went off to the counter and the banana started to peel. The strawberry was impressed of the big tall banana. So, they both took a dip in the yogurt bowl and swam around. “Oh, banana,” said strawberry, “you are so great. I want to blend with you.”
“I want to blend with you.” said an excited banana. The banana caress strawberry’s seeded exterior which started a spiral in the yogurt bowl. They began to swirl and swirl.
“Oh, Strawberry!”
“Oh, Banana!”
The swirling was intense. They blended so hard they started to merge. Then, banana felt something. Then, strawberry felt something.
“Oh my god! Oh my god! Don’t stop!”

The feeling was getting stronger and stronger. “I can’t believe it!” Screamed strawberry, “This is incredible!”
The feeling was reaching its apex.

Their emotions heighten. Their senses peaking.

Lost themselves in the feeling, banana and strawberry started to speak:
I’m gonna!   I’m gonna!

WE’RE GONNA!

SMOOTHIE!

Day 3 – Elegy to My 20s

napo2017button2

My 20s
I miss you so
I miss the long night of having fun
And the short cash to pay dues.

No children to be responsible for
But put away childish things
Because they call me an adult.
What?

To Overindulge on all vices as a pick me up
But loss friends because they couldn’t give it up

Crying like a baby for losing family
And reevaluate places I go for safety

Understanding that love and relationships work different.
By losing people personally and in business.

Graduating with degrees and military accomplishments.
But realizing that I am glad that I survive all of it.

Rest in peace

Day 2 – Tuna Roma

Tuna Roma
Will put you in a coma
Sitting there
Unprepared
Like folks from Oklahoma

So get a large bowl
Dump in these ingredients
2 cans of Tuna, spaghetti sauce, and cooked pasta
Stir with a big spoon
And do the Chacha
Sprinkle some mozzarella cheese
It will make you weak in the knees.

Cover with waxed paper
Nuke for 4 minutes
Uncover the top
And throw the rest of the cheese in it.
Let it sit covered
As the cheese melt
Uh, Hope you like the Beatles
You’re about to scream help.

Something for the kids and lone performers. I like to introduce you to Tuna Roma

NaPoWriMo Early Bird Prompt: Haibun – Host Duty

napo2017button2

I wrote a Haibun with the NaPoWriMo early bird Prompt. It is on my first open mic Host Duty at Joe Montoya’s Poetry Unplugged in Sacramento, CA:

On March 30, 2017:

I went to Luna’s cafe to be a spectator or performer for the open mic night. But I was bestowed an uncommon opportunity: I became the host of Joe Montoya’s poetry unplugged. Unbelievable. I have a café packed with a great audience, a half – filled list of eager performers and poet wanting to get on stage, and no feature to showcase their work.

I was definitely going to work some magic in this room tonight. But, I pulled it off and it worked out. So, attending Joe Montoya’s Poetry Unplugged for a year and 9 months,  I have worked every open mic show role.  I have performed on that stages as an amateur, a feature (Duo and Solo), and now a host. So let’s see what is next? Owner?

Opportunity
New host rises from the crowd
New journey begins

Days until Showtime

On January 12th, I was invited to do my first Solo Poetry feature in March.  I still have not got over the shock yet.  I keep thinking that it was a dream or something. But it is real.  I am going to be the Headliner at Joe Montoya’s Poetry Unplugged.  Mind Blown.

RAP IS POETRY

I am going to perform 10 poems and rap lyrics.  Now, why would I perform rap piece? Isn’t this a poetry show?  Yes, it is. But people resist to realize that Rap lyrics are just a sub genre of poetry. There is a poem style called Lyrics.

Lyrics are a form of poetry which expresses personal emotions or feelings, typically spoken in the first person. The term derives from a form of Ancient Greek literature, the lyric, which was defined by its musical accompaniment, usually on a stringed instrument known as a lyre.  They use the same poetical devices and concepts like sonnets used in Shakespeare’s plays. The art of rap derives from lyric poetry, accompany with music, to become songs instead of poems.

I was a novice poet when I was 9 years old but I switch over to be a rapper because I began to love the hip hop culture.  Plus, I could not breakdance or afford turntables (until I was 21). So, I was going to be a rapper. I have performed in groups and solo. I have made albums and recordings under the stage name RES.  I have listed blog posts below about being a Emcee to poet & DJ / Turntablist.

TYPES OF POETRY FEATURE

Now, I have seen and performed with several headline features at various venues.  There are two types of feature Poets: Reading poets and Spoken Word artists. For Reading poets or Poetry reading, the Feature Poet reads their or others poems aloud in front of an audience like a Speaker giving a speech.  Those type of feature can use their personality to invoke emotion the poem.  I rarely see this type as entertainment due to the separation with audience by paper.  But, the Spoken Word artists are performer, musician, and activist that would perform their poems like an actor on a grand stage.  Projecting the emotion towards the audience, these artist are animated with their actions and words. Spoken word artist fascinated me, since I was rapper before I became a poet.

So why do you call your feature: Split Personality?

charron-flyer-corrected

I have been an emcee for 30 years who has added additional skills (Deejaying, Turntablism, musician, producer, engineer, and entrepreneur) to extend my career.  I just started pursuing Spoken Word in 2003 to perform in Coffee shop and not dive bars. It took years to understand the matrix of Spoken word and Slam Poetry.  I have relinquish my rapping persona to be a poet.  It took a few friends to recognize that I am not performing at my full potential. So, I started to reintroduce Resolution (MC) to CharRon(poet).  This feature is the result.
